Mission

The Civil Rights and Equity Office reports directly to the Chief Diversity Officer and Associate Vice President for Community, Equity and Diversity. The Director & Title IX Coordinator and staff are charged with the responsibility to oversee the University’s compliance efforts with affirmative action, Title IX, disability laws and regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, equal employment laws, and campus initiatives aimed at creating a diverse, welcoming and equitable campus. The Director provides advice on policies, programs and services to achieve affirmative action goals and enhance the campus climate, is the designated Title IX representative, and, in addition, handles all complaints of discrimination under the Discrimination and Discriminatory Harassment Policy.

The EEO/ADA Compliance Officer assists in the development and administration of policies, procedures and practices for the University, to insure compliance with the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Federal and state laws and regulations regarding access and non-discriminatory practices for persons with disabilities.

The Director & Title IX Coordinator and staff serves as a liaison among the President’s Office, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President for Finance & Administration, Senior Vice Provost for Student Life, and appropriate governing committees; delivers educational programs; supports activities and programs throughout the campus community (for students, faculty and staff) on the issues of equity, diversity and affirmative action; and represents the University with federal and state agencies.

Diversity Missions

  • Collaborate with the Chief Diversity Officer and Associate Vice President for Community, Equity and Diversity, providing/monitoring/supporting campus initiatives aimed at creating an inclusive, welcoming and equitable campus
  • Serve on (or chair) committees, councils, task forces, etc., supporting these goals
  • Liaison to groups, offices, departments and individuals working on diversity efforts, on and off campus (e.g., NAACP, the Governor's Commission on Disability)
  • Promote equity in hiring, direct/support diversity search efforts for faculty and staff

Compliance Missions

  • Oversee UNH compliance:  affirmative action, Title IX, disability laws and regulations, non-discrimination and equal employment laws (federal and state)
  • Enforce Discrimination and Discriminatory Harassment Policy and Bias Response Protocol
  • Investigate complaints
  • Provide UNH response/defense to complaints outside agencies
  • Provide advice on policies, programs and services, and work with departments and offices charged with compliance issues and concerns (e.g., General Counsel, Human Resources, Community Standards, Senior Vice Provost for Students, etc.)

Educational Missions

  • Communicate expectations for behavior and actions by members of the community.  The Discrimination and Discriminatory Harassment Policy (revised August 2020) is a tool to describe expectations and provide a system for collecting and investigating complaints.  Redress and education are common outcomes upon findings of violations.

From I-95 South (Maine), take Exit 5 (in NH) to the Spaulding Turnpike (Route 16N), then take Exit 6W (Route 4 West) toward Durham. Go beyond the UNH/Durham exit for 1.5 miles to a traffic light. Turn left onto Madbury Road.  At the 4-way Stop, continue straight and take your first right onto Garrison Ave.  At the stop sign, you will cross Main Street into the Thompson Hall Parking Lot (between brick gate posts). There is limited parking in this lot.  Parking spaces are available for a $1.50/hr. fee with a two hour parking maximum. Stop and see the parking attendant for availability. Accessible parking is available. An accessible entrance to Thompson Hall is located at the right rear of the parking lot. Civil Rights and Equity is located on the 3rd floor, Room 305, of Thompson Hall.

From the West, take route 101 East to Exit 7 (Route 125 North). Follow Route 125 North to the Lee traffic circle. Take Route 4 East to the second exit for UNH and Durham. At the end of the exit, take a right. You'll come to a round-about, where you take the second exit , past the tennis courts, and will come to a traffic light. Continue straight at the lights to a set of brick gate posts.  Turn right into the Thompson Hall parking lot. There is limited parking in this lot. The Thompson Hall parking lot has limited parking.

If you are a guest attending a meeting with CREO, a parking space can be reserved for you in the Thompson Hall parking Lot. Contact CREO to make arrangements at (603) 862-2930 (Voice) / TTY Users 7-1-1.

Accessible parking is available. An accessible entrance to Thompson Hall is located at the right rear of the parking lot. CREO is located on the 3rd floor, Room 305, of Thompson Hall.

A Visitor lot is also available at the corner of Main Street and Edgewood Avenue.

Programming your GPS device

Campus parking lots do not have street addresses, and thus cannot be programmed into commercial GPS devices.  The addresses of nearby buildings can be used to get you close to campus lots, but further navigation is sometimes necessary.  Below are some common destinations for visitors or event attendees:
